Sunny Days in Chester – GiANT Jubilee Celebrations

The weather in England has been absolutely amazing for the past week and the whole nation has been out taking advantage of it! I predict there will be some very burnt Britons turning up to work tomorrow morning.

We spent the afternoon at the Brook Street Festival, checking out local bands and catching some rays. We also got to chill with Wills, Kate, and HRH! Wasn’t it nice of them to drop in for the weekend before the big Jubilee celebrations begin? The Queen’s frock is particularly fetching.

Royal Giants in Chester

These royal giants are part of the collection of Chester the GiANT City, a local community interest company that encourages people to come together to build a giant for the annual BiG GiANT Parade that takes place during the summer festival season.

Apparently Chester has a long history of building giants , dating back to the 14th century, when giants such as these were used in solstice celebrations to ward of evil spirits.

This year’s GiANTS Carnival has been merged with the Diamond Jubilee and 60 individual giants will be paraded through the city on 4 June starting at 11am. This will most definitely be a sight to behold! Really, where else in the world would you have the opportunity to see such a thing?

Find all the information you need at The GiANTS website, including route and event information.

I’m actually a little bit disappointed that we’ll be away in Europe for the spectacle….but only a little bit.

How are you celebrating the Jubilee? Street Party, camping trip, or ignoring it all together?
