There are few sights more magical than the Eiffel Tower glowing in the darkness. Since 1985 the tower has been lit from the inside by 336 projectors equipped with high-pressure, yellow-orange sodium lamps, and today the gleaming tower is an icon the world over.
Personally, my favourite of the Eiffel Towers illuminations are the hourly twinkling lights, which have been delighting Paris visitors since the millennium celebrations of the year 2000. Every hour, on the hour, the tower is engulfed by more than 20,000 twinkling white lights that dance across the tower for five minutes. A still photograph just can’t do the spectacle justice so take a look at this video for a taste of the experience.
I like the sparkling Eiffel Tower so much that it is where Damian decided to propose! A proposal under a sparkling Eiffel Tower? It doesn’t get much better than that!
